Republic of Keralam is an independent cultural project, and is not affiliated with the Government of Kerala. This opening page introduces a growing, source-led history of the land we now call Kerala.

Evidence behind this page

• UNESCO: Western Ghats — geological context, Gondwana, ecosystems and the monsoon.
• Kerala Tourism: Edakkal — rock engravings in Wayanad. This page avoids assigning a single date or settled meaning to the engravings.
• Kerala Tourism / Muziris Heritage Project: Pattanam — excavation finds and maritime connections. Pattanam’s identification with Muziris is presented as a possibility.

A knowledge commons for people and AI

The mission is to bring Kerala’s history and information into one open-source place, gathering many sources without pretending that any single account is final. The archive is Malayalam-first, with English alongside. This landing page is in English for now.

Collecting more Malayalam texts and carefully sourced local knowledge can give readers, researchers and AI systems richer context. The aim is to improve the material available for understanding Kerala, while preserving sources, permissions, uncertainty and room for correction. Future visualizations will draw from the open data. The landing page does not yet integrate or visualize the Markdown archive.

Historians, Malayalam writers, translators, archivists and developers are invited to contribute sources, texts, translations, corrections and tools through the public archive repository . Only contribute material that can lawfully be shared; a source link is useful even when a full text cannot be republished.

How the archive will grow

The scope is geographical: the territory within present-day Kerala, including its geological and palaeontological past, human societies and contemporary life. The name and modern borders are a reference for the inquiry, not a claim that an unchanging identity existed through deep time.

The goal is broad era-based research for prehistory and year-by-year records where evidence permits. The archive is in early development; coverage is incomplete. Sources, dates, uncertainties and disagreements should remain visible. A planned entry is not the same as a verified account.

The opening threads mix short sourced introductions with future research directions. No claim is made that the full archive is already researched or complete. Explore the data archive project or the website source .
